The McCall MacBain Scholarship in Canada is a fully funded master’s and professional-degree scholarship offered by the McCall MacBain Foundation at McGill University, Canada’s top-ranked university and 30th-ranked worldwide in the 2027 QS World University Rankings, based in Montreal, consistently rated the world’s #1 student city.

The scholarship funds a full-time master’s or second-entry professional undergraduate program (such as law or medicine) for outstanding students of any nationality, age, or academic background. For the 2027 intake, 130 scholarships and awards are on offer, including up to 30 full scholarships, split between Canadian and international applicants.

Scholarship Awards

Canadian Applicants (Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and refugees)

• 20 McCall MacBain Scholarships (full scholarship), tenable at McGill
• 30 Finalist Awards of $10,000 CAD, tenable at McGill
• 30 Regional Awards of $5,000 CAD, tenable at any public university in Canada

International Applicants (any other nationality)

• 10 McCall MacBain Scholarships (full scholarship), tenable at McGill
• 25 Finalist Awards of $20,000 CAD per year for up to 2 years, tenable at McGill
• 15 Regional Awards of $10,000 CAD, tenable at any public university in Canada

Eligibility Criteria

You must meet one of the following:

1. You are currently a student on track to complete your first bachelor’s degree by August 2027
2. You completed your first bachelor’s degree in the last five years (January 2021 or later)
3. You completed your first bachelor’s degree more than five years ago, but you were 30 years old or younger as of January 1, 2026

Eligibility Criteria for Admission 

• Minimum GPA: McGill’s general graduate minimum is a cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0, or a GPA of 3.2/4.0 in your last two years of full-time study.
• Degree equivalency: You must hold a recognized bachelor’s degree considered equivalent to a McGill undergraduate degree.
• Language requirement (McGill’s general graduate minimum; some programs require higher scores):
  • TOEFL iBT: 86 overall, with no component below 20 (institution code: 0935)
  • IELTS Academic: overall band score of 6.5 or higher
  • PearsonPTE (PTE Academic): consult your specific program, as requirements vary by faculty
  • Duolingo English Test: not accepted for graduate admission at McGill
• Language of instruction: All McGill programs are taught in English. French is not required to study or live in Montreal, though free French courses are offered to scholars who want to learn.

You must also apply and be admitted separately to an eligible McGill graduate program. The McCall MacBain Scholarship application and the McGill admissions application are two distinct processes, and scholarship offers are conditional on program admission.
