The University of Manitoba (UM) offers international students entering undergraduate studies at its Winnipeg, Manitoba, campus the International Undergraduate Student Entrance Scholarship. This is a merit-based, partially funded award, not a full-ride scholarship, so read the funding details carefully before you plan your budget.

This scholarship rewards academic excellence among international students who graduate from high schools outside Canada. First, it welcomes any nationality holding a valid Canadian study permit. Additionally, it applies to direct-entry undergraduate programs across UM’s faculties and schools. Moreover, UM automatically awards it to eligible applicants who apply on time, so you don’t need a separate scholarship application. Instead, you simply submit your admission application by the deadline. Ultimately, that single step covers both admission and scholarship consideration.

Scholarship Benefits

• A one-time cash award applied toward tuition costs (award amounts are set by UM each year in tiers based on high school grade average)
• No separate scholarship application form; eligible students are automatically considered when they apply for admission

This scholarship does not cover full tuition, accommodation, travel, health insurance, or a living stipend. It should be treated as a partial tuition credit, not a fully funded package.

Eligibility Criteria

• Hold a valid Canadian study permit as an international student.
• Additionally, pay the international student tuition fee rate.
• Also, apply for admission to any faculty or school at UM by the March 1 deadline.
• Furthermore, achieve a minimum high school average of 85%, based on your best five senior-level academic courses from UM’s approved General Entrance Scholarship course list (UM applies a comparable standard to assess applicants from outside Manitoba and Canada).
• Then, enroll full-time in both the upcoming fall and winter terms, taking a minimum of 24 credit hours.
• Finally, keep in mind you cannot hold this scholarship together with the UM International Baccalaureate Entrance Scholarship or any other UM Entrance Scholarship program award.

Language Requirements

UM requires proof of English proficiency for all applicants whose primary language is not English (unless a recognized waiver or exemption applies):

• IELTS Academic (or IELTS Indicator): 6.5 overall, minimum 6.0 in each of the four modules
• TOEFL iBT: For tests before January 20, 2026, minimum overall score of 86 (20 in each component); for tests from January 21, 2026 onward, minimum overall score of 4.5 (4.0 in each component)
• Pearson PTE: 58
• Duolingo English Test: Minimum overall score of 120, with 105 in each of Literacy, Comprehension, Production, and Conversation
• CAEL: 60
• Cambridge C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency: 180

How to Apply?

• There is no separate scholarship application form. Eligibility is assessed automatically as part of your undergraduate admission application.
• Apply for admission to your chosen undergraduate program at the University of Manitoba by March 1 for Fall-term entry.
