Do you want to study in Italy without worrying about tuition, housing, or meals? The EDiSU Pavia Scholarship for the 2026/2027 academic year funds students admitted to the University of Pavia, one of Italy’s oldest universities, founded in 1361. It covers a cash grant, free daily meals, and, for off-site students, a place in an EDiSU college. Italian, EU, and non-EU students can all apply if they hold a place in a bachelor’s, master’s, single-cycle master’s, PhD, or non-medical specialization program. However, EDiSU sets the total award count each year based on the budget it receives, so the number for 2026/2027 isn’t fixed yet (see the note below).

- Bachelor’s Degrees in all fields at the University of Pavia
- Single-cycle master’s degrees, including medicine and surgery and dentistry and dental prosthetics via the “filter semester.” This is a preparatory semester that students complete before formally enrolling in these high-demand programs
- Master’s Degrees in all fields
- PhD Programs, as long as the candidate doesn’t already hold another government-funded PhD scholarship or research grant
- Specialization Schools in non-medical fields only

Scholarship Benefits

Cash grant: Ranges from €1,314 to €7,419 a year depending on income tier and residency category, before the meal value is added
Free daily meals: One free meal a day at EDiSU-affiliated canteens from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2027, or the cash equivalent in cities without an EDiSU canteen
Free accommodation: Off-site students who qualify get a place in an EDiSU college for the 2026/2027 academic year
STEM supplement: EDiSU increases the scholarship by 20% for female students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics degree courses
Disability supplement: EDiSU can raise the grant by up to 40% for students with a certified disability of 66% or higher, after an individual assessment
International mobility grant: Students on an approved exchange receive €600 a month for up to 10 months abroad, plus a travel allowance of €100 for European countries and €500 for countries outside Europe. Each student can use this grant once per degree course
Regional tax reimbursement: Already included in the cash grant amount

Awards Summary

EDiSU calculates each award by combining the applicant’s income tier (based on ISEE UNI) with their residency category. So the same student can receive very different totals depending on where they live during the year. The figures below show the 2026/2027 cash grant plus the value of the free daily meal:

On-site students (living in Pavia or a neighboring municipality):

Note: EDiSU halves these amounts for students in their “first year of overtime” (one year beyond standard course duration).

Eligibility Criteria

Italian, EU, and non-EU students can all apply
Applicants must not already hold a degree at the same level as, or higher than, the one they’re pursuing
Applicants must not receive another public or private scholarship in the same academic year
For 2026/2027, applicants must meet both financial thresholds: ISEE UNI cannot exceed €26,887.93 and ISPE UNI cannot exceed €58,452.06
Students with income or assets abroad must submit original, legalized documentation by the September 15, 2026 deadline
Applicants must be enrolling for the first time in the first year of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Single-Cycle Master’s program, or already be enrolled in a subsequent year, PhD, or non-medical Specialization course at the University of Pavia
First-year Bachelor’s/Single-Cycle Master’s applicants need a secondary school final exam mark of at least 70/100, or the equivalent for foreign qualifications, once EDiSU applies the MIUR conversion formula. They must also have no prior university enrollment
Students in subsequent years must meet the minimum credit (CFU) thresholds set out in Attachment A of the official call, and EDiSU verifies these by August 10, 2026
Degree equivalency: EDiSU converts qualifications earned abroad using MIUR’s official formula, so foreign degrees must be equivalent to the Italian qualification the course requires
