Application Process

KU offers interdisciplinary Master’s and PhD programs. Select the PhD program that aligns with your academic background and research goals.

Make sure you meet the academic, language, and document requirements before applying.
PhD Admission Requirements
Regular PhD (With Master’s Degree)
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (minimum CGPA 3.0/4.0)
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (minimum CGPA 3.25/4.0)
- English proficiency:
- TOEFL iBT 91 (test center only)
- IELTS Academic 6.5
- Two referee recommendations
- Statement of Purpose (500–1000 words)
- Research Statement (500–1000 words)
- Admission interview
Direct PhD (Without Master’s Degree)
- Bachelor’s degree with minimum CGPA 3.5/4.0
- GRE Quantitative score of at least 150 (all sections required)
- English proficiency same as Regular PhD
- Two referee recommendations
- SOP + Research Statement
- Admission interview
English Language Test Exemptions
Exemptions may be granted for:
- Native English speakers (USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand)
- Graduates from English-medium institutions with:
- IELTS 6.0 or
- TOEFL iBT 79

Statement of Purpose
The SOP should clearly explain your motivations and academic background. Include:
- Introduction and academic interests
- Reasons for choosing KU
- Goals during your PhD studies
- Career aspirations
- Relevant academic or professional experience
Research Statement Guidelines
Your Research Statement should focus on your intended contribution to your field. Include:
- Your research interests
- Previous research experience
- Example of a project you want to pursue
- Reference to KU’s Institutional Research Priorities

Study Modes
- Full-time: 9–12 credit hours
- Part-time: 6 credit hours
- Direct PhD applicants must study full-time
