Opportunity Brief Description:

We encourage Afghan students residing in Afghanistan or as refugees in other countries to apply to the UWC Scholarship for Afghans. However, if you are a permanent resident or citizen of another country, you are not eligible to apply through this committee. Instead, please submit your application to the country’s national committee where you hold citizenship or permanent residency.

  • Study Level: UWC school or college studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP)

Eligibility Criteria:

List of Requirements for Afghan Students Applying to UWC:
  • Only applicants born between August 1, 2005, and August 15, 2009, are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must provide a valid Tazkira and a valid Afghan passport. Failure to do so will result in automatic disqualification.
  • The application must be your work. Any indication of outside help with your application – at any stage of the process – is grounds for immediate disqualification.
  • Provide a valid email address and telephone number. Applications without clear contact information will be rejected.
  • The entire application process is conducted in English, so applicants must have a good understanding of the language.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

The UWC National Committee of Afghanistan selects candidates based on the following criteria:

  • Intellectual curiosity: You have a passion for learning and can critically analyze global and local issues.
  • Active commitment to UWC’s values: You share UWC’s values and promote them in your daily life, while also valuing and respecting other people’s opinions.
  • Social competence: You interact respectfully with others and work effectively in a team to find solutions to problems.
  • Resilience, self-awareness, and independence: You can take care of yourself physically and emotionally in challenging situations and know when to ask for help.
  • Personal responsibility and integrity: You express and examine your values and beliefs while demonstrating communal responsibility.
  • Academic robustness: You have the potential to meet the rigorous demands of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme.

What support is available to students at UWC School or College?

  • UWC provides extensive support to its students, with 70% of them receiving financial assistance based on their needs.
  • The institution is committed to the well-being, growth, and aid of its students.
  • Spiritual care is also recognized as vital in helping students navigate the challenges of living and learning in a residential school away from home while pursuing a demanding academic and co-curricular program.
  • All UWC locations have a team of dedicated staff who serve as house parents, student advisors, peer support networks, nurses and counselors, deans of students, health and wellness specialists, heads of residential life, psychologists, and psychotherapists, and provide access to healthcare services both on campus and in the local area.

Parental Consent:

  • The UWC scholarship is for a two-year residential program (with separate rooms for male and female students); parental approval is essential for consideration.

  • The application deadline is Thursday, November 1, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Kabul time.
  • Late applications will not be considered.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • We recommend you do NOT leave the application submission to the last minute.

  • Once registered, please create your eligibility profile to continue.
  • Please make sure to choose “UWC National Committee” as the route to apply to UWC, unless you are planning to apply through the UWC Global Selection Programme.
  • If you choose the UWC Global Selection Programme, you will not be directed to the UWC Afghanistan application form and will not be eligible for a scholarship.

Note:

It is important to note that the UWC National Committee of Afghanistan does not have a physical office in Afghanistan, and all members operate remotely and can only be contacted via email. Unfortunately, we have received reports of scammers in Afghanistan who have posed as National Committee members to deceive applicants. Please be cautious and vigilant to avoid being a victim of such scams.
