Aga Khan Foundation (Education Services) is inviting qualified female candidates to apply for the English Teacher position in Kabul (Chamandi). AKF Education Services has been active in Afghanistan since 2004, delivering high-quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) and non-formal education programs. Currently operating in seven provinces—Kabul, Bamyan, Baghlan, Kunduz, Balkh, Samangan, and Badakhshan—the organization serves more than 25,000 children and students annually.

This position offers a one-year extendable contract with a professional, learner-centered work environment, focusing on effective language instruction, continuous assessment, and collaboration.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan termly tests, lessons, and quizzes in coordination with the learning unit and regional teams.
  • Deliver effective lessons using diverse teaching strategies for different age groups and proficiency levels.
  • Develop or adapt engaging learning materials using available resources.
  • Monitor student progress, conduct quizzes/tests, provide feedback, and support low-achieving learners.
  • Assign appropriate homework and weekly projects with regular follow-up.
  • Offer academic guidance to help students meet their language learning goals.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and motivating learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding academic progress.
  • Continuously improve teaching skills through professional development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share resources and best teaching practices.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, training sessions, and curriculum development initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, assessments, and progress reports.
  • Uphold AKF Education Services’ policies on safeguarding, anti-cyberbullying, and child protection.

Occasional Duties:

  • Assist with orientation and mentoring of new teachers.
  • Prepare training packages and deliver workshops under program coordinator guidance.
  • Provide class coverage for other teachers when needed.

Eligibility Criteria

Required Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English Language & Literature or English Language Teaching (ELT).
  • Minimum two years of English teaching experience.
  • Advanced English level (CEFR B2+ / C2), to be assessed during recruitment.

Desired Competencies:

  • TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or English Score certificates.
  • Advanced ICDL certification.
