Are you an Afghan woman looking for a way back into higher education? Afghan Female Student Outreach (AFSO), a US-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, offers a fully online, tuition-free academic pathway for Afghan women, starting with a College Preparation Certificate and leading, for qualified students, to an accredited Bard Global Associate Degree (AA) through AFSO’s partnership with Bard College’s Global Education Network. AFSO is not a university and does not itself grant degrees, but it connects eligible students to certificate courses, English-language preparation, and partner degree programs at no cost. Applications are accepted on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis for the current term.

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a woman residing in Afghanistan
- Must have completed secondary education (12th grade or equivalent)
- Basic English proficiency at A2 level
- Access to a smartphone or internet-enabled device
- Required documents: Tazkira (national identification) or equivalent ID, secondary school certificate or diploma, and any additional academic records the applicant wishes to include
AFSO also accepts certificates from several partner alternative-education programs, including the TTS certificate from the American University of Afghanistan and school diplomas or completion letters from LEARN Afghanistan, SOLAx, Omid Online School, Daricha School, Nayestane, and the Begum Academy. Applicants with other certificates are encouraged to contact AFSO’s admissions team, since each application is reviewed individually.
Language Requirements
- Minimum entry requirement: English proficiency at A2 level
- Colloquium eligibility: minimum B2 English level plus a professor recommendation
- English Language Test Preparation course eligibility: C1 English level, preparing students for the TOEFL and Duolingo English Test
