The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is for non-UK citizens wanting to study at the University of Cambridge. Who can apply? The Gates Cambridge Scholarships

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is open to applicants who:

  1. Are not citizens of the United Kingdom
  2. Wish to pursue a postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge in one of the following courses: PhD (full-time or part-time*), MLitt (full-time), or a one-year full-time postgraduate course (with some exceptions, as specified)
  3. Can apply for funding for a part-time doctoral degree for October 2024 entry through a pilot scheme offered by the program.

*Note: The part-time doctoral degree option is only available for the October 2024 entry and is subject to the pilot scheme’s terms and conditions.

Eligibility Criteria for  Gates Cambridge Postgraduate Scholarships

Applicants must meet the following four criteria to be considered:

Academic excellence:

Candidates must demonstrate evidence of academic excellence through their transcripts, references, experience, and potential to succeed in their chosen course.

Reasons for choice of course:

Applicants must make a strong case for their choice of postgraduate degree at Cambridge. PhD applicants and most research MPhil applicants must contact a potential supervisor and develop a research project, while taught MPhil and other applicants must demonstrate how completing the proposed course will facilitate their career plans.

 A commitment to improving the lives of others:

The Gates Cambridge programme seeks Scholars who are committed to improving the lives of others. Applicants define this criterion themselves by providing evidence of their past, current, and future commitment to the societies in which they will live and work.

A capacity for leadership:

Successful applicants must demonstrate a capacity for leadership, which can be expressed in various ways. They should provide evidence of their leadership experience to date and indicate how their leadership skills may have an impact on their future careers.
