Looking to do a PhD in Australia, fully funded? The Vice-Chancellor’s PhD Scholarship (VCPS) from RMIT University, Melbourne, is FULLY FUNDED and open to Australian/NZ and international candidates. It covers stipend, research allowance, tuition, relocation costs, and health cover for international recipients. RMIT offers 10 VCPS awards per year. The 2027 round is now open.

VCPS Benefits

  • Stipend: AUD $48,299/year (2026 rate; 2027 rate not yet released)
  • Research support allowance: AUD $5,000/year
  • Tuition: RTP Fee Offset (domestic/NZ) or RRITFS (international)
  • Relocation: up to $515/adult, $255/child, max $1,540
  • Paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave
  • OSHC for visa duration (international recipients)
  • Duration: 3.5 years full-time

Eligibility Criteria

  • Master by Research; OR high-distinction Master by Coursework with research component; OR first-class Honours; OR 4-year bachelor’s with 80%+ GPA
  • Without these, prior publications/research experience may qualify
  • Australian/NZ citizen, Australian PR, or international candidate starting PhD from 1 Jan 2027
  • Must have applied for a full-time RMIT PhD
  • Ineligible if already enrolled in an RMIT PhD, already holding a research doctorate, receiving another award over 75% of the RTP rate, or (international) not meeting English requirements by deadline

How to Apply?

  • Apply for a full-time RMIT PhD through the standard research degree process
  • Complete the VCPS Expression of Interest form
  • Submit: certified ID, CV, transcripts, research proposal, English proficiency evidence, SOP (if applicable), certified documents, and (if sponsored) a financial guarantee letter
  • Supervisor contact evidence must be included
