Want to study in Canada without paying tuition? The University of Toronto, ranked 29th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and first in Canada, offers the Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarships to outstanding international students entering undergraduate studies. The award funds a full four-year bachelor’s degree for non-Canadian students who show exceptional academic achievement, creativity, and leadership. U of T names approximately 37 Pearson Scholars each year for the September 2027 intake, drawn from a pool of students nominated by their own secondary schools.

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be an international student, defined as a non-Canadian who requires a study permit
• Must be enrolled in the final year of secondary school in 2026/2027 or have graduated no earlier than June 2026
• Must begin undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto in September 2027
• Students already enrolled in post-secondary studies do not qualify
• Students planning to start post-secondary studies in January 2027, at U of T or elsewhere, do not qualify
• Must receive a nomination from their own secondary school; each school may nominate only one student per year
• Must apply to at least one undergraduate program at U of T; applicants may apply to up to three program areas, but the scholarship, if awarded, applies only to the applicant’s top-choice program at the time of the decision
• Generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT) are prohibited in preparing any part of the application; the university disqualifies applicants who use them

How to Apply?

• Start by asking your school counsellor, principal, or head of school whether your secondary school can nominate you. Previously participating schools get nomination-form access from July 6, 2026. Schools that have not yet joined must apply to participate by noon EST on October 9, 2026.
• Apply for undergraduate admission to the University of Toronto through the OUAC by October 16, 2026. This step is required before the Pearson Scholarship application opens to you.
• After your school nominates you and you submit your admission application, you receive a private link to complete the Pearson Scholarship application and submit supporting documents by November 6, 2026.
