Opportunity DDSA Visit Grant in Denmark

The Danish Data Science Academy (DDSA) Visit Grant or DDSA Visit Grant in Denmark is designed to attract talented students and early-career researchers from around the world to Denmark’s vibrant data science research community. The grant supports short research visits that help applicants establish connections and prepare for future PhD or Postdoc fellowship applications with Danish supervisors.

What is the DDSA Visit Grant?

As part of the broader DDSA Fellowship Programme, the Visit Grant provides funding for national and international bachelor’s and master’s degree students, PhD students, and postdoctoral researchers to spend time with new research groups in Denmark. The primary goal is to give young researchers the opportunity to explore potential long-term collaborations and lay the groundwork for a future DDSA PhD or Postdoc fellowship application.

Visits must be relevant to the DDSA Research Scope and take place at a Danish university or Danish research institution.

What Does the Grant Cover?

The DDSA Visit Grant in Denmark contributes up to DKK 15,000 to cover the following costs:

• Travel expenses (arrival and departure)
• Accommodation
• Related expenses directly linked to the visit

The grant does not cover:

• Salary
• Daily allowances (per diems)
• Food expenses
• Daily local transportation
• Car rentals

DDSA strongly encourages the use of public transport such as trains and buses. The use of private vehicles or taxis is only permitted if it can be clearly justified in terms of cost and time efficiency, and must be pre-approved by DDSA on a case-by-case basis.

Important Notice: The 2026 call has been closed due to a high number of accepted applications and exhausted funds. All DDSA-funded travels and visits must be completed no later than October 1, 2026, as DDSA concludes its 5-year budget cycle.

Who Can Apply to DDSA Visit Grant in Denmark?

To be eligible for the DDSA Visit Grant, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree programme, or be employed as a PhD student or postdoctoral researcher at a university at the time of the planned visit; or the visit must take place within one year of completing enrolment or employment.
• Have a confirmed agreement with a supervisor employed at a Danish university or Danish research institution.
• The purpose of the visit must be relevant to the DDSA Research Scope.
• Applicants can receive only one Visit Grant per year.
• Supervisors can host a maximum of three Visit Grant applicants per calendar year.

Application Timeline

• Applications were accepted on a rolling basis until September 1, 2026, or until funds were exhausted.
• Applications are normally processed within 6 weeks.
• Applications must be submitted at least 1 month prior to the start of the planned visit.
• All funded travel and visit activities must be completed by October 1, 2026.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through the official DDSA Portal:

You are required to upload a Letter of Support from the host supervisor/institution. The letter must use the official DDSA template and confirm both your scientific qualifications and the potential scientific value of the visit.

Applications that do not meet the eligibility criteria or documentation requirements will be rejected without further evaluation.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications are assessed based on the following:

• The applicant’s motivation, scientific purpose, and intended outcome of the visit in relation to the DDSA Research Scope
• The quality and content of the Letter of Support from the host supervisor

How the Grant is Paid Out

The grant is awarded based on approved budget items and is paid as a reimbursement of actual costs. After the visit, the applicant must submit:

• A final report
• A financial account with valid receipts and documentation
• The final report must be submitted no later than 2 weeks after the end of the visit. Payment is transferred to the applicant’s personal bank account.
