Planning to pursue a master’s degree in the Netherlands but need funding to make it happen? The Eric Bleumink Fellowship (EBF), run by the University of Groningen (RUG) together with the Ubbo Emmius Foundation, funds talented students from developing countries who want to complete a master’s degree at this top-100 university. The fellowship targets students from the least developed countries who wish to obtain a master’s degree and may be invited to study at the University of Groningen. The fund awards a small group of grants each year, and since its founding in 2000, it has supported 100 students from 30 countries. Eric Bleumink Fellowship Benefits

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria (candidate-side):

• Hold the nationality of one of the eligible countries listed above
• Receive a provisional or unconditional admission offer for a master’s programme before February
• Be available for the whole period of the programme and able to take part in it entirely
• Be in good health, so health insurance in the Netherlands can be arranged
• Have no other means of financing the study in question
• You cannot apply for this grant directly; the Admissions Office and Faculty Admission Boards nominate suitable candidates based on the master’s application rug
• Excellent English language proficiency, in accordance with the admission requirements of the chosen master’s program. The EBF page does not list separate IELTS/TOEFL/PTE thresholds, so check your specific programme’s language page directly

How to Apply?

• You cannot apply for the Eric Bleumink Fellowship on its own. Instead, apply to your chosen RUG master’s program through the university’s online application system, and complete that application before 1 December 2026.
• If you receive a provisional or unconditional admission offer before February, the Admissions Office and your faculty’s Admission Board will consider you for an EBF nomination and inform you before 1 February 2027
