The Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Program (AKF ISP) 2026 is a highly competitive postgraduate scholarship for outstanding students from selected developing countries who have no other means of financing their education. Established in 1969 by His Late Highness Aga Khan IV, this program has supported over 1,500 scholars worldwide.

The scholarship is awarded through a global, annual, and competitive selection process. Only a limited number of new scholarships are offered each year. The 2026 application cycle will open in January 2026.

The program gives priority to Master’s degree studies, while PhD applications are considered only in exceptional cases where a doctoral degree is essential for the applicant’s career goals.

Eligible Countries

The AKF ISP 2026 is available in:

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Kenya, Kyrgyz Republic, Madagascar, Mozambique, Pakistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Scholarship Benefits

The scholarship provides needs-based financial support, including:

• Coverage of tuition fees

• Support for student living expenses

• Funding for the entire Master’s program duration

• For PhD students, funding is provided for the first two years only

The scholarship does not cover:

• International travel

• Clothing or furniture

• Living expenses for family members

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for AKF ISP 2026, applicants must:

• Have an excellent academic record

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience

• Demonstrate genuine financial need

• Present a clear multi-source funding plan for all years of study

• Be admitted to a reputable postgraduate institution

• Be starting the first year of the postgraduate program

• Show strong leadership potential, professional experience, extracurricular or volunteer activities

• Applicants under 30 years of age.

Loan Conditions

• 50% of the award is a loan

• A guarantor is required to co-sign the agreement

• The loan includes a service charge

• Repayment begins six months after:

  • Graduation, or

  • Termination of studies, or

  • Withdrawal of support due to academic underperformance
