The Afghan Youth Education and Health Organization (AYEHO) is hiring Teacher Trainers to support its Temporary Learning Space (TLS) education programs funded by AYEHO and UNICEF. This position plays a key role in building teacher capacity, improving classroom quality, and strengthening learning outcomes in emergency, returnee, and community-based contexts.

Selected candidates will conduct teacher training, provide mentoring, lead classroom observations, and ensure TLS centers meet UNICEF minimum learning standards. The role requires regular travel to Ghazni, Parwan, and Paktya provinces and demands strong pedagogical skills, field experience, and a commitment to safeguarding.

Job Responsibilities

A. Teacher Capacity Building

  • Develop and contextualize training materials and session plans according to MOE TLS Teacher Training Manual.
  • Deliver refresher and on-the-job training for TLS teachers on pedagogy, methodology, lesson planning, child protection, inclusive education, classroom management, PSS, and EiE.
  • Guide teachers on managing multi-grade classrooms and teaching in emergency/returnee settings.

B. Coaching, Mentoring & Technical Support

  • Conduct regular classroom observations across TLS sites and provide actionable feedback.
  • Mentor teachers to improve instructional quality, participation, and learning outcomes.
  • Provide targeted coaching for new or struggling teachers.
  • Support teachers with lesson planning, assessments, schedules, and classroom routines.

C. Quality Monitoring & Classroom Improvement

  • Ensure TLS classrooms follow UNICEF minimum learning standards and child-friendly practices.
  • Monitor teacher attendance, performance, and compliance with TLS teaching guidelines.
  • Identify teaching gaps and coordinate corrective actions with field teams and regional staff.
  • Support effective use of teaching and learning materials.
  • Collaborate with District Education Officer and field teams to strengthen TLS operations.

D. Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain attendance sheets, evaluation forms, and training records.
  • Prepare daily and monthly mentoring reports for the Program Manager.
  • Document classroom findings and follow-up actions.
  • Provide inputs for donor reports, success stories, and capacity-building summaries.
  • KOBO Toolbox familiarity is required.

Eligibility Criteria

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Pedagogy, Psychology, or a related field (required).
  • Additional EiE or teaching certificates are an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a teacher trainer.

  • Experience in humanitarian or development education projects preferred.

  • Proven experience in teacher mentoring and classroom observation.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of teaching methodologies and inclusive education.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate teachers.
  • Knowledge of child protection, PSS, safeguarding, and PSEA.
  • Ability to travel frequently to remote TLS centers.
  • Fluency in Dari and Pashto; basic English required.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent travel to Ghazni, Paktya, and Parwan TLS centers.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in remote, challenging environments.
