The School of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds is ranked 10th in the UK and 100th globally in the 2019 Shanghai Ranking, and is the 13th most impactful research university in the UK. The School of Sociology and Social Policy is seeking to create a distinct space for teaching, research, and public engagement for international students. International applicants from anywhere who are willing to pursue their bachelor’s or master’s degree will engage with in-depth knowledge of the subject, experienced supervisors, and meet international participants. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the International Excellence Scholarship you must:

  • Have a conditional or unconditional offer for an eligible taught Master’s (or Bachelor’s) programme starting in September 2026 at University of Leeds. www.FindAMasters.com+1

  • Be self-funded or partially funded (i.e., not fully sponsored). www.FindAMasters.com+1

  • Demonstrate a strong academic record (minimum of a 2:1 Honours degree or equivalent for Masters). www.FindAMasters.com+1

  • Show excellent personal and professional skills through extracurricular activities, leadership, work or voluntary experience. Buddy4Study+1

  • For the field-specific version (Sociology & Social Policy) you must meet the subject offer conditions and demonstrate suitability for the School of Sociology & Social Policy.

Required Documents

You will need to prepare and submit the following:

  • Completed scholarship application form (as provided by the University once you hold your offer).

  • Academic certificate(s) and transcript(s) of previous study.

  • Work experience or related documents (if applicable).

  • Statement of scholarly interest and future career or research plan (about 500 words).

  • Any other supporting documents such as prizes, awards, certificates of achievement.

  • Conditional or unconditional acceptance letter from the University of Leeds for the relevant programme.

How to apply ?

  1. Apply to a relevant course at the University of Leeds (Bachelor’s or Master’s) and obtain a conditional or unconditional offer.

  2. After you receive your offer, monitor your email for the scholarship application opening notification from the University of Leeds.

  3. Prepare the required documents (see above) and complete the scholarship application form, ensuring you highlight your academic achievements, leadership or extracurricular experience, and how the course and University align with your ambitions.

  4. Submit the scholarship application by the relevant deadline (Round 1: 27 February 2026; Round 2: 27 March 2026) for the Sociology & Social Policy subject-specific version.

  5. If awarded, confirm your acceptance within two weeks of notification and commence your studies before 1 October of the academic year in which the scholarship is offered.

  6. Be aware that it is not possible to postpone the scholarship award and each course offer requires a separate application if you hold multiple offers.
