Opportunity Overview

The UWC Afghanistan Scholarships (United World Colleges) National Committee is calling for applications for its 2025/26 fully funded scholarship program. This opportunity is open to motivated and passionate Afghan youth who are eager to contribute to their communities while gaining a world-class education. United World Colleges (UWC) is a global educational movement with 18 schools and colleges across the world. Its mission is to make education a force for peace, sustainability, and intercultural understanding.

Each year, UWC Afghanistan offers fully funded scholarships for outstanding Afghan school youth to pursue their final two years of secondary school at UWC campuses worldwide.

Through a two-year residential program at one of UWC’s schools or colleges worldwide, selected students will pursue the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) or the International Baccalaureate Career-related Program (IBCP).

UWC’s mission is to make education a force for peace and sustainability, and this program aims to empower Afghan youth with skills, values, and a diverse global network to create positive change.

Academic Program (IB Curriculum)

At UWC Afghanistan Scholarships, students follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, which includes six academic groups:

1. Language & Literature
2. Language Acquisition
3. Individuals & Societies
4. Sciences
5. Mathematics
6. The Arts

Alongside these, every student engages with three core components of the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework:

• Extended Essay (EE): A self-directed research project.
• Theory of Knowledge (TOK): A course on critical thinking and the nature of knowledge.
• Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS): Engagement in artistic, physical, and community service projects.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be Afghan citizens or Afghan refugees residing in Afghanistan or neighboring countries.
• Be 15–17 years old at the time of entry to UWC.
• Be enrolled in or recently completed secondary education (formal, community-based, self-study, or online programs accepted).
• Possess valid Tazkira and Passport (required for travel).
• Demonstrate academic readiness, maturity, resilience, and a commitment to UWC values.
• English proficiency is encouraged, but fluency is not mandatory at the time of application.

Student Support at UWC Afghanistan Scholarships

UWC provides a strong support system, including:

• Houseparent’s and student advisors.

• Nurses, counselors, psychologists, and wellness staff.
• Access to healthcare on campus and locally.
• Spiritual care and community support for student well-being.

Required Documents UWC Afghanistan Scholarships

Applicants must prepare and submit the following documents during the application:

1. Completed Online Application Form
   • Available through the UWC Afghanistan portal once applications open.
2. Valid Identification
   • Copy of Tazkira (Afghan National ID).
   • Copy of Passport (must be valid for at least 2 years).
3. Recent Digital Photograph
   • Passport-size, clear, with plain background.
4. Academic Records
   • Report cards or transcripts from the current academic year.
   • Report cards or transcripts from the previous academic year.
   • Translations into English if documents are in Dari or Pashto.

Note: Documents from accredited online schools are also considered valid in this process. like: EBA (Education Bright Afghanistan and others.)

1. Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Activity Record
   • A summary of extracurricular activities, community involvement, achievements, and leadership roles.
2. Recommendation Letters
   • 1–2 letters from teachers, mentors, or community leaders.
   • Should highlight academic ability, personal character, and leadership potential.
3. Parent/Guardian Consent Form
   • Signed approval from parents/guardians allowing the student to apply and, if selected, study abroad for two years.
4. Motivational Essays / Short Questions
   • Written responses to application questions (such as why UWC, leadership experiences, or ethical dilemmas).
5. Optional Supporting Documents (if available)
   • Certificates, awards, diplomas, or evidence of community service.
   • Language certificates (if applicable).

Every UWC national committee adapts its selection process to fit local culture and context, but all follow six core principles when choosing students:

Note: Students are responsible for securing their own passports and visas. Due to the absence of consular services in Afghanistan, visa processing may require travel to a neighboring country.
