About the Fellowship

The Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers offers one of the world’s most prestigious international fellowship programs. Designed for academics, journalists, creative writers, independent scholars, translators, and visual artists, this program is ideal for those whose work will benefit from direct access to the NYPL’s world-class research collections.

Fellows will work primarily at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building in New York City, engaging in independent research while participating in a vibrant intellectual community. Each Fellow will have the opportunity to present their ongoing work, exchange ideas with peers, and contribute to public programs hosted by the Library.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be established or emerging scholars, writers, or artists with exceptional work
  • Have projects that require access to NYPL collections
  • Be proficient in English (international applicants welcome)
  • Commit to working on-site at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building for the duration of the fellowship
  • Not be enrolled in a degree-granting program related to the proposed research
