Funded Fellowship Opportunity in Patient-Oriented Clinical Research
The American Philosophical Society (APS) is offering the Daland Fellowships in Clinical Investigation for early-career physician-scientists. This prestigious award supports innovative, patient-centered research across multiple branches of clinical medicine, including internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Daland Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold one of the following degrees: M.D., D.O., M.D./Ph.D., or D.O./Ph.D.
- Must have received their degree within the last eight (8) years
- Preference is given to candidates with less than two years of postdoctoral training
- Research must take place at a U.S.-based institution
- Open to both U.S. citizens and international applicants
- Direct interaction with patients is mandatory
- Must have a scientific advisor committed to supporting the candidate’s research
Award and Financial Benefits
- Fellowship Amount: $40,000 per year
- Duration: 1 year (renewable for 1 additional year upon satisfactory progress)
- Renewal Application: Due in January, as stated in the award letter
- Payment Schedule: July 15 and January 15
- Institutional Overhead: Not supported
Note: The Fellowship expects full-time dedication to research. Limited teaching or clinical duties may be approved if they do not interfere with research commitments.
Letters of Support (Three Required)
Applicants must submit three confidential letters of recommendation, including:
- Scientific Advisor Letter
- Should confirm mentorship, lab resources, office space, and research guidance.
- Department or Division Head Letter
- Expert in the Field Letter
