The Institute for Law & AI (LawAI) is now accepting applications for its Summer Research Fellowship (US) for 2026. This fully funded 10-week program offers law students, professionals, and academics an opportunity to conduct rigorous research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, U.S. law, and policy. Fellows receive close mentorship, engage with experts, and contribute to meaningful work on AI regulation and governance.
The fellowship is remote-first, but includes a mandatory in-person week in either Washington, D.C., or Berkeley, CA, giving participants direct exposure to leading institutions and policymakers.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the LawAI Summer Research Fellowship (US), applicants must:
- Have a solid understanding of legal principles related to AI, particularly within U.S. law and policy.
- Be law students (e.g., JD or LLM), PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, legal academics, or professionals with relevant experience.
- Be able to commit full-time to the fellowship from June 15 to August 21, 2026.
- Attend the in-person week (June 22–26) in either Washington, D.C. or Berkeley, CA.
- If offered, have or be eligible for valid work authorization or visa support. LawAI will make reasonable efforts for visa sponsorship, depending on location.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
- A completed online application form by the deadline.
- A curriculum vitae (CV) or résumé.
- A research proposal or statement of interest outlining intended research topics aligned with LawAI’s mission.
- Academic transcripts.
- Two references (academic or professional) who can speak to research potential.

Application Procedure
