Applications are now open for the EPFL Excellence Fellowships 2026 in Switzerland. These prestigious fellowships support outstanding students from around the world who wish to pursue a Master’s degree at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), one of Europe’s top science and technology universities.

The fellowship aims to attract highly talented international and EPFL internal applicants, offering financial support, housing benefits, and academic recognition. Selection is highly competitive and based on academic excellence, qualifications, and motivation.

This program is partially funded and provides up to CHF 40,000, depending on the duration of the chosen Master’s program. External and internal candidates follow different application processes and deadlines.

Scholarship Benefits

Selected students for the EPFL Excellence Fellowship will receive the following benefits:

• CHF 10,000 per semester

  • Up to CHF 40,000 for 2-year programs

  • Up to CHF 30,000 for 1.5-year programs

• Reserved student accommodation in EPFL student residences (external candidates only)

• Certificate of excellence upon program completion

• Free French language course

• Permission to work part-time during studies

• Access to internship opportunities in Switzerland or abroad

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

General Eligibility

• Open to all nationalities, including Swiss and international students.

• Must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent recognized by EPFL.

• Must apply to an EPFL Master’s program.

Not Eligible

• Applicants who already hold a Master’s degree.

• Students currently enrolled in a Master’s program at EPFL.

• Quality of previous studies and achievements

Required Documents

External Candidates (Bachelor’s degree from abroad)

No additional documents are required beyond the standard Master’s admission documents.

Internal EPFL Candidates – Same Field

• CV

• Motivation letter

• EPFL transcript (all grades)

• Two recommendation letters (sent directly by professors to master.fellowship@epfl.ch)

Internal EPFL Candidates – Changing Field

• All documents required for EPFL Master’s admission

• Two recommendation letters (sent directly by professors)

Application Procedure

1. External Candidates (Bachelor’s from outside EPFL)

1. Apply through the EPFL Online Master’s Application Portal.

2. Check the box indicating that you want to be considered for the Excellence Fellowship.

3. Upload all required Master’s admission documents.

4. Submit before the application deadline.
