The Al Jazeera Media Institute (AJMI) Fellowship 2025 is a prestigious two-month program designed for full-time journalists and researchers from around the world. This fellowship provides a rare opportunity to work directly within Al Jazeera Media Network’s (AJMN) professional environment—recognized globally for its excellence in journalism and media innovation.

The program consists of two phases:

1. Phase 1 – Remote:
   Fellows develop a complete research plan and submit an introductory section of their research paper.

2. Phase 2 – On-site at Al Jazeera Headquarters:
   Fellows complete their research work, engage with professional teams, and finalize a 7,000-word research paper under expert supervision.

This fellowship specifically supports research related to journalism in the Global South, digital media, journalism ethics, media institutions, and emerging journalism models. Participants also gain mentorship, access to Al Jazeera’s newsroom, and networking opportunities with leading journalists and editors.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree

• Be a full-time journalist or researcher (freelancers are eligible)

• Have at least 4 years of professional experience in journalism or related media research

• Demonstrate strong research and writing skills

• Be fluent in English with solid academic writing abilities

• Open to non-Arab applicants only (Arabic speakers must apply to the Arabic Fellowship Program)

Fellow Commitments

Selected fellows must:

Selection Process

The selection process includes:

1. Evaluation of applications by a selection committee

2. Review of proposal relevance to AJMN’s priorities

3. Possible interviews or additional information requests

4. Final decisions by a committee from:

   • Al Jazeera Arabic

   • Al Jazeera English

   • Digital Division
