Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is a highly diverse and renowned two-week academic summer program. With an enrollment of over 2,000 students from 150+ countries and all 50 U.S. states, YYGS is committed to providing over $3 Million USD in need-based financial aid to both domestic and international students.

The program offers a collaborative curriculum that introduces participants to innovative topics and encourages discussions influenced by global perspectives. Students can choose from tracks in STEM, social sciences, humanities, or cross-disciplinary studies.

Note: YYGS application fees are non-refundable. Students with demonstrated financial need can submit the Fee Waiver Form for their school official to complete, and if approved, the fee will be reduced to $0 USD.

Eligibility Criteria:

To apply to YYGS, applicants must meet the following requirements:

1. Applicants must be within the age range of 16-18 years old by July 21, 2024 (first day of Session III).*
2. Ability to actively engage in an academically rigorous curriculum conducted in English.
3. Applicants must currently be in their sophomore or junior year of high school (or international equivalent).
4. Graduation Date in May/June 2025 or 2026 if residing in the Northern Hemisphere, or in Nov./Dec. 2024 or 2025 if residing in the Southern Hemisphere.
5. Only first-time participants are eligible to apply for YYGS. Individuals who have attended a YYGS session in a previous summer (prior to 2023) are not eligible for YYGS 2024.

Required Application Components:

1. Activities list
2. One 400-word essay and one 200-word response
3. Two “fast take” responses (280 characters each)
4. Official school transcript
5. One Recommender (who will complete the YYGS Recommendation Form* ONLY)
6. Application fee** ($70 for Early Action and $85 for Regular Decision)
7. Submit Application button must be clicked on the “Review” page for consideration
8. OPTIONAL: English fluency test scores (TOEFL or DuoLingo)***
9. OPTIONAL: Need-based financial aid****

*We only accept completed online YYGS Recommendation Forms; written letters of recommendation are not accepted. The form allows for fair comparison among applicants from diverse backgrounds and is designed to be simple and user-friendly for recommenders.

How to Apply ?

To apply for YYGS 2024 with Yale University, follow these eight steps:

Step 1:

Familiarize yourself with the YYGS eligibility requirements mentioned above.

Step 2:

Ensure you have all the necessary documents for the YYGS application.

Step 3:

Review a PDF example of a blank application and prepare to answer as many application questions as possible.

Step 4:

Collect contact information from a parent/guardian, teacher, or school official who can help you review the blank application example and provide the required information.

Step 5:

Click the “APPLY NOW” button below to initiate your YYGS application. Remember to note your email address and password for future access to the application.

Step 6:

Return to the application’s “Review” page to confirm the completion of all required components and revisit any sections that require additional information.

Step 7:

Once you have finished your application, go to the “Review” tab and click the “Submit Application” button located at the bottom of the page.

Step 8:

In your Applicant Status Portal, make a payment of $70 for Pool One application or $85 for Pool Two or the Regular Decision application. Please note that all YYGS application costs are non-refundable.
